(TargetLiberty.org) – Russia has issued a ban on U.S. citizens blocking them from entering its territory in retaliation to the U.S. sanctions over the war with Ukraine. This includes key figures such as former President Obama, political commentator Rachel Maddow and even late-night host Stephen Colbert.
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry posted on its website a list of 500 Americans who would be blocked from entering the country because of the sanctions that the U.S. has placed on Russia. As they claim the sanctions are designed in a way that would inflict the most damage possible to both officials and civilians in Russia. Those who have made it on the ban list are mostly former officials, lawmakers from both parties, experts and analysts who were deemed to have “Russophobic” attitudes, and companies that have assisted the war effort in Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.
The list includes Reps. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) and Becca Balint (D-Vt.), Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.), CNN anchor Erin Burnett, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves, and late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers and former NBC and MSNBC anchor Brian Williams.
The list also includes some of the individuals who were involved in the “persecution of dissidents” who had taken part in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. In the post, they wrote that it was time that Washington learned that attacks on Russia would not be “left without a strong reaction.”
The U.S. and other Western allies of Ukraine have placed sanctions on Russia numerous times since Russian forces began their full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year.
