(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) claimed that former Vice President Mike Pence is right in blasting former President Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection. He then proceeded to claim that “history will judge everyone” for the actions they took that day.

An interview with CBS’s “Face The Nation” stated that Pence on the day of the insurrection had “exercised moral clarity and judgment.” He then proceeded to call it a “dark day” in the nation’s history. Over this past weekend, Pence had stated that the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack was a “disgrace” and added that Trump’s “reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.” These were some of the harshest criticisms from Pence towards Trump over the event.

It is widely speculated that Pence might join the Republican nomination race against Trump in 2024. Following the 2020 presidential election, Trump put increased pressure on Pence and other Republican lawmakers to block the certification of the election results.

McCaul, who had not voted against the certification, argued that Pence had “avoided a major constitutional crisis that day.”

During his speech on Saturday Pence spoke against the efforts from some people to alter the narrative on what occurred on January 6, 2021, especially after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) gave Fox News host Tucker Carlson exclusive access to thousands of hours of security footage from that day.
