(TargetLiberty.org) – Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur has announced that he would not be recommending criminal charges against President Biden over his mishandling of classified documents dating back to his time serving as the Vice President.
Hur was first assigned to the case last year, and since then has been investigating Biden’s mishandling of classified records, some of which included foreign policy and military information about Afghanistan, as well as national security documents. Hur noted in his report that the investigation included “sensitive intelligence sources and methods.”
In the report, it was stated that in conclusion to the investigation, the case did not warrant any criminal charges. It further noted that the same conclusion would be reached even if the Department of Justice policy did not prevent them from filing charges against a sitting U.S. president.
Hur described President Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” He added that this is most likely how Biden would choose to present himself in front of a jury, much like he had done during their interview. He further pointed out that the majority of jurors would also want to “identify reasonable doubt” when examining Biden’s case and that it would be hard for him to be convicted of a serious felony that would require them to prove a “mental state of willfulness.”
The special counsel further noted that during the investigation they had “uncovered evidence” that showed that Biden had “willfully retained and disclosed” classified information after he left his position as vice president and became a private citizen.
