Republicans Push Back Against Vaccine Mandates

( – COVID-19 vaccine mandates are becoming more common across the US. In September, President Joe Biden announced a sweeping mandate impacting millions of Americans. Republicans are now taking action.

On Friday, October 15, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) introduced the Forbidding Repressive Executive Efforts and Denouncing Overreaching Mandates (FREEDOM) Act. The legislation is co-sponsored by Reps. Brian Babin (TX), Michael Burgess (TX), and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA). It would require all federal agencies to issue reports on the number of employees who quit their jobs because of the mandate. The government will also have to estimate how much time and money it will take to fill the positions.

Jackson believes President Biden’s mandate, requiring all federal employees to get the vaccine, is illegal.

Republicans largely think the decision about whether to get the vaccine is up to individuals. Jackson said he received the shot and encourages his constituents to talk to their doctors about whether it’s the right choice for them. However, he said the decision is between Americans and their doctors, not between them and Biden.

Democrats currently have control of the House and the Senate, so the chances of Jackson’s bill being passed are slim. Nonetheless, it shows a commitment by Republicans to fight for Americans’ freedoms.
