(TargetLiberty.org) – California Governor Newsom and AG Rob Bonta have threatened that they might have to file charges against the state of Florida and Gov. Ron DeSantis for kidnapping illegal migrants and transporting them to California by plane.
A report by the LA Times stated that more than a dozen South American migrants had been put on a chartered flight from New Mexico to Sacramento, California’s state Capitol. In a news release, Bonta pointed out that there were still investigations but that they could confirm that the individuals that had arrived in the city had documents that were given to them by the Florida state government.
In the news release, he proceeded to state that they were continuing to collect evidence. He then added that “State-sanctioned kidnapping is not a public policy choice, it is immoral and disgusting.” On Monday in a tweet, Newsom also targeted DeSantis calling him a “small, pathetic man.” He proceeded to note that this was not Martha’s Vineyard, where in September DeSantis had arranged for 50 migrants to be transported to the island, he added “Kidnapping charges?” He proceeded to link to the exact section of the law in California that described state-sanctioned kidnapping.
The flights of asylum seekers arranged by DeSantis are part of a $12 million Florida program that is looking to move illegal migrants from border states to sanctuary cities. Similar programs exist in other states and they are widely perceived to be an attempt by border governments to protest the border policies implemented by the Biden administration.
