(TargetLiberty.org) – Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) criticized Republicans for their stance on abortion, claiming on Sunday that if they continued to pursue increasingly restrictive policies the GOP is “going to lose huge.”

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Mace argued that the Republicans need to learn how to “read the room on this issue” and that the majority of Americans are against overly restrictive stances. She added that if they continue this way they were “going to lose huge.”

Mace, a moderate Republican and a survivor of sexual assault, has often blasted the GOP over its policies on abortion, especially since the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year.

On Sunday, she specifically called out the number of states who have introduced increasingly restrictive abortion legislation, including the recent six-week abortion ban that was signed in Florida last week. She also attacked the new bill in South Carolina, her home state, which would make women who get abortions subject to the death penalty. She added specifically that this bill gave “more rights to rapists than women who have been raped.”

Mace specifically said that this was “the wrong message” to be sent as they were approaching the 2024 presidential election. She added that it was important to find a middle ground and that most people would “want some sort of gestational limit, not at nine months, but somewhere in the middle.” She added that exceptions for rape and incest are also important. She further claimed that it was important for women to continue having abortion access.
