Putin Scolds US Over Pelosi's Visit to Taiwan

Putin Teams Up With China – SLAMS Pelosi For Alleged “Provocation”

(TargetLiberty.org) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) recent and controversial visit to Taiwan is still causing waves in the international community. On August 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at a conference in Moscow, accusing the United States of intentionally starting “trouble” in the region. He claimed the California legislator wasn’t going rogue in her decision to stop at the island, but her presence was a US attempt to “sow chaos” and fuel destabilization in the Asia-Pacific.

In fact, the Taiwan Relations Act states the US should not do anything to “jeopardize the security” of the Taiwanese people. Pelosi’s visit may have don’t just that, prompting Putin to voice his opposition to the move.

China, which insists the sovereign nation is legally part of the mainland, has not condoned Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, but many fear the larger Asian country will use the Russian roadmap of successes and failures to reclaim Taiwan. The US congresswoman’s recent visit sparked concerning military activity from the Chinese military dangerously close to the island’s territory. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen recently asked for help stopping the unprovoked actions and vowed to defend the country if necessary.

In July, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent mixed messages about the nation’s relationship with Russia. He publicly refused to condone the Ukrainian invasion, yet, at the same time, he confirmed cooperation between the two countries on “regional and global issues.” Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi even said the strengthening ties between the two are becoming a “security concern.”
