(TargetLiberty.org) – Mass COVID-19 vaccinations will start in Russia next week, according to President Vladimir Putin – but some observers are questioning whether Russia is really making fast progress, or just fighting a propaganda battle with the West.

Putin made his announcement on December 2, during a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova. Putin told her publicly, “you will not report to me next week, but you will start mass vaccination.” Coincidentally, this happened just hours after the UK became the first country in the world to approve the use of the Pfizer vaccine. Shipments are already on the way to Britain, with vaccination centers due to open Monday.
This isn’t the first time Russia’s anti-coronavirus progress has closely matched the West. When Pfizer revealed that its vaccine has a 90% success rate early last month, Russian health officials announced their own Sputnik-V vaccine – and, amazingly, they say it’s also 90% effective.
