(TargetLiberty.org) – Russia’s Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, who only a few months ago organized a coup against Russian President Vladimir Putin was one of the 10 people who died in a plane crash outside of Moscow according to state media.

The TASS news agency reported that Prigozhin was one of the passengers of a business jet that was heading from Moscow to St. Petersburg. The Department noted that an investigation has been launched into the Embraer plane crash. Originally it had not been clear whether or not the Wagner founder was indeed one of the plane’s passengers but it was later confirmed by the Russian state media.

The Pentagon has revealed that they are monitoring the situation.

Adrienne Watson, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council stated that they are aware of the reports about the crash and that if it does turn out to be true, then “no one should be surprised.” As she pointed out, the war in Ukraine had led to a private army marching towards the Russian capital and following that incident this plane crash appears to have occurred.

Reporters also asked President Biden about the plane crash, to which Biden stated that they had not confirmed that this had occurred, but if it is confirmed then he would not be surprised. As he argued there is not a lot that takes place in Russia that Putin is not in control of, but currently they do not have enough information to know what has happened.
