(TargetLiberty.org) – Ever since House Democrats set up their committee last year to investigate the January 2021 Capitol riot, Republicans have worried that it would simply be a partisan attack mob. Now their fears are being dramatically confirmed. The committee is going far beyond its investigative remit and is trying to change the law.

The House Select Committee to investigate the January 6, 2021 riot outside the US Capitol is dominated by Democrats. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to accept the list of Republican nominees; the only GOP members on it are anti-Trump Representatives Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Liz Cheney (R-WY).
Since its formation, the committee has pushed the boundaries at every opportunity. It’s already seized the phone records of several Republican legislators, subpoenaed banks to grab financial records and, by its own admission, fabricated evidence. Now it’s getting really ambitious; it wants to shut down any attempt to audit future elections.
Last week, liberal journalists reported that the committee is now investigating people who donated to election integrity groups – even if they weren’t at the Capitol during the riot. It’s believed they will push to criminalize funding of election audits and vote integrity campaigns. Unfortunately, nobody seems interested in tightening their reins. This is what happens when a Democrat-controlled Congress gets to appoint a committee to pursue Democrat goals.
