(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash stated that she thinks Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is “playing politics” by supporting the idea that the two indictments against former President Donald Trump can be expunged.
As she pointed out, at the time they did not have a choice and it was necessary for Trump to be impeached.
Last month McCarthy had told reporters that he supported the efforts to have both of Trump’s impeachments completely erased, and claimed that one of the two was not based on facts while the other did not follow due process. This he claimed would be the reasoning behind expunging.
Pelosi however argued that at the time of the impeachments, Congress did not have another choice as Trump’s actions had endangered the country and risked national security. She added that the idea of having the impeachments completely removed is “not responsible.”
She then claimed that this support is driven by fear, arguing that Trump is the puppeteer and that those controlled by him appeared pathetic.
While Pelosi was serving as the Speaker in the House of Representatives she impeached Trump two times. The first time was in 2019 over his abusing his power and threatening that the U.S. would not provide military assistance to Ukraine unless the country agreed to launch investigations against Trump’s political opponents, and the second time was in 2021 over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.
In both of these cases, Trump was acquitted by the Republicans in the Senate.
