PA Town Residents Fight for Personal Liberties

( – Residents of West Manchester Township in Pennsylvania are fighting their town’s plan to keep fluoride in their water.

The Shiloh Water Company currently plans to remove fluoride from the water, but a hearing was held because dentists and others in the town want to keep the chemical in the water. Not everyone is happy about their fellow townsfolk trying to keep it.

Mary Baxter said she thinks the issue is simple; the Food and Drug Administration says it’s a drug and she believes it should not be added to the water because it takes away people’s choice about medication. She’s not alone in her classification of it:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 72.8% of the people in the US have fluoride in their water. That means more than 200 million people were not given the choice about whether or not they wanted to ingest a chemical. Dentists and the CDC say it’s safe, but that isn’t the point. People should have the right to decide what they want to put in their bodies.
