(TargetLiberty.org) – Former President Barack Obama issued a statement in which he praised President Biden for making a tough choice and choosing to drop out of the presidential race. He called Biden a “patriot of the highest order” however he did not proceed to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to take over as Biden’s replacement nominee.
In his statement, Obama argued that Biden was a “dear friend,” “patriot,” and one of the country’s “most consequential presidents.” He added that he expects that his party is going to be “navigating uncharted waters” in the coming days but argued that he was confident that the party would find a way to move forward. At no point in his statement did Obama mention Harris.
Later in the statement, Obama argued that he had confidence in the leaders of the party and their ability to create a process from which an “outstanding nominee” is going to emerge. He argued that he believed that the vision that Joe Biden had for the country’s future was going to be on full display during August’s Democratic Convention and argued that he expected that every single person was prepared to carry that message of progress and hope in the 2024 presidential election and beyond that.
Obama also noted that for now he and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, want to express gratitude and love to Joe and Jill Biden for their courage and commitment to equality and freedom.
During his time in the White House, Obama was known for his close relationship with his then-vice president Joe Biden. He noted that knowing Biden he was certain that this must have been a tough choice for Biden that he had only made because he believed it is what is best for the country.
