(TargetLiberty.org) – A leading Republican has ordered an investigation of the National Security Agency after concerns emerged about the spy organization’s behavior. The NSA has tried to conceal information from Congress – and there are rumors it’s also targeting conservative figures for surveillance.
On June 30, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that because of a “disturbing trend” he’s seen from the NSA recently, he’s asked Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA) to investigate what’s going on at the agency. McCarthy said, “For the past several months, I have seen a disturbing trend at the National Security Agency… The NSA cannot be used as a political instrument.”
For the past several months, I've seen a disturbing trend at the National Security Agency. The NSA cannot be used as a political instrument.
I’ve asked Rep. Devin Nunes to investigate and find answers on behalf of the American people.

What got McCarthy worried is the NSA’s failure to disclose information requested by the House Intelligence Committee. Now, on top of that, there are reports that the agency has been reading the mail of popular Fox presenter Tucker Carlson. The NSA denies “targeting” Carlson – but McCarthy isn’t convinced. A loophole in the law lets the NSA spy on US citizens without court approval as long as their communications aren’t tagged as belonging to an American.
Representative Nunes, as a ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, is well laced to investigate the NSA. As well as getting to the bottom of what’s happening at its Fort Meade, MD headquarters, McCarthy also wants the NSA to reinstate its former general counsel, Michael Ellis, who was pushed aside by the Biden administration.
