(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate for 2024, stated that a Republican ban would not be able to institute a national abortion ban without the House and the Senate.

In an appearance on CBS, Haley told moderator Margeret Brennan that the American people deserved to know the truth, which is that a national standard was necessary. She proceeded to explain that this would mean that they needed the majority of the House, 60 votes in the Senate, and the President’s support. As she argued there have not been 60 pro-life Senators in office in over a century.

As she noted, the idea that a Republican President would be able to institute an abortion ban was dishonest, and that this is not an option any more than it would be for a Democrat president to ban all pro-life laws in different states.

Brennan proceeded to tell Haley that Senator Scott (R-S.C.), whom it is speculated is preparing to launch a presidential campaign, has vowed to sign a 20-week national abortion ban.

Haley however has stated that this would lead to division and that she was not planning on lying to the American people when such a ban would only be possible if they win the 60 votes necessary in the Senate. She proceeded to argue that this was not something that either party was close to achieving. She added that there was no reason to cause further division and that instead, the focus should be on their attempts to save as many babies’ lives as possible while supporting mothers.
