( – On Sunday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker slammed former President Donald Trump claiming that he was “weakness masquerading as strength.”

Welker asked Newsom during the interview if the Democrats had been underestimating the former President as he was likely to be facing President Joe Biden in the 2024 general election in November. In response, Newsom argued that the Democrats were not underestimating Trump. He proceeded to attack the former President over his recent remarks arguing that he was “unhinged” and far “less interesting” than he had a few years ago.

Newsom argued that it was “extraordinary” Trump was “unraveling” on several things including basic policy issues such as a repeal of Obamacare, which in the last few weeks has had the highest enrollment rates.

He then pointed out that by contrast to Trump who was weak, the Democrats were strong and that they had won in ‘18, ‘20, ‘22, and ’23. He added that they continue to outperform the GOP and win and that Trump is in big part responsible for that.

However, Welker was quick to note that recent polls have shown that the majority of voters were worried that Biden could not serve a second term. Newsom in response pointed out that Biden was on top of the ballot because of his record while in office and that he was not concerned about the President’s ability to beat Trump in the upcoming November election.
