(TargetLiberty.org) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) delayed sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate for almost a month. On Friday, she announced that she’ll finally be sending the articles this week. What took her so long?
On Sunday, Pelosi did an interview on ABC’s This Week and gave an explanation.
Pelosi was hoping, by delaying impeachment proceedings, to get Senate Republicans to agree to be called as witnesses during the trial. She also hoped the delay would allow more time for gathering additional documentation to aid the Democrats’ case.
When asked about Mitch McConnell’s agreement to sign on to a resolution to dismiss the articles of impeachment, Pelosi responded:
“Dismissing is a cover-up. If they want to go that route, again, the senators who are thinking now about voting for witnesses or not, they will have to be accountable for not having a fair trial.”
A vote to send the articles to the Senate will be held this week.
