(TargetLiberty.org) – This year has set a grim new record in US law enforcement. More cops have been killed in the line of duty than ever before – and in many cases, it looks like they were deliberately targeted.

On December 8, the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) released new figures on violence against law enforcement officers. According to the FOP, in the 11 months to the end of November, 314 US police officers have been shot in the line of duty, 58 of them fatally.
Most disturbingly, much of this violence isn’t happening when police confront lawbreakers who’re committing a crime – increasingly, the cops are the real target. So far this year there have been 95 “ambush-style” attacks on police – a 126% increase over 2020 – resulting in 119 officers shot and 28 of those killed.
Policing expert Heather MacDonald says the surge in violence is a predictable result of wrong-headed policy. She told reporters the erosion of the bail system and the increasing trend for left-wing mayors and governors to stand down the police when violence breaks out is sending a message to criminals – and that message is there’s no consequence for breaking the law. Too many on the Left think the police are the problem. They’re not; they’re all that stands between us and savagery.
