(TargetLiberty.org) – Michelle Obama recently rebuffed former President Donald Trump’s claims that there had been a “massive” turnout during his 2017 inauguration. The former first lady reportedly claimed that “there weren’t that many people there.”
The former first lady’s comments are going to be shared in her new podcast “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast,” which is set to debut on Tuesday on Audible. The preview clip sharing the remarks was first shared with People magazine a day before the episode’s release.
When speaking about her and her husband, then-President Barack Obama, leaving the White House, she said that on that day “You walk through the Capitol, you wave goodbye, you get on Marine One, and you take your last flight flying over the Capitol.” She continued to say that there were not as many people there as they saw in the city.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that there had been a large crowd presence during his inauguration following his victory in the 2016 presidential election. At the time he had said “We had a massive field of people, you saw that. Packed,” after he claimed that the media were lying about how many people were there.
Photos comparing Trump’s and Obama’s inauguration crowds on the National Mall clearly show that the audience was sparser during Trump’s inauguration.
Regarding the Inauguration Day, the former first lady told NBC’s Hoda Kotb that it was an emotional day for different reasons. She first shared how they were leaving their home for the last eight years, which in reality was the home that their children had really grown in. She then added that she had been emotional to see the lack of diversity in Trump’s inaugural ceremony and that taking a last flight on Air Force One was also emotional.
She added that it was also emotional to see the exact opposite of what they had displayed and represented was also emotional. As she said when they entered Air Force One she proceeded to cry for 30 minutes straight because of how much they had been holding in over the eight years.
