(TargetLiberty.org) – The Fresno Bee, a prominent newspaper in Fresno, Calif. has been calling for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to “dump Trump.” The paper’s editorial board, which has in the past also criticized McCarthy, stated on Wednesday that it was time for the House Speaker to completely “disavow” former President Donald Trump following his fourth indictment in Georgia.
Last Monday, Trump was indicted along with 18 co-defendants in a 98-page indictment which details the group’s attempts to change the presidential election results in Georgia. The 19 defendants, in this case, have been charged with several different charges depending on their role, as well as with racketeering charges.
Since the start of 2023, Trump has been indicted three times. The first indictment came from New York and related to a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential elections. The second and third indictments are both federal cases. The first one relates to Trump’s mishandling of classified documents that were recovered from his Mar-a-Lago home, while the third is dealing with Trump’s attempts to stay in power following the 2020 election.
On Wednesday, the Bee’s editorial board slammed McCarthy over his decision to support Trump, pointing out that shortly after the indictment McCarthy had posted on X that this latest indictment was further proof that President Biden was weaponizing the judicial system against Trump. The board further argued that McCarthy’s tweet had been incorrect on many different levels and that Biden did not play any role in the indictment which was the decision of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
