(TargetLiberty.org) Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has dubbed former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley a “Bush in heels,” pointing to Haley representing a traditional wing of the GOP like former President George W. Bush.
In a tweet, Greene alleged that Haley was going to be “weak on the border” and would not want to have a wall. She added that Haley had previously claimed that many “‘Legal Immigrants are more patriotic than most Americans these days.’”
Haley officially announced her presidential campaign on Tuesday. Following the announcement, she faced a lot of criticism as she is currently the only Republican to have challenged former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination.
Conservative Republicans have widely aligned with former President Trump. Greene’s attempt to tie Haley to the Bush family relates to the current trend in the GOP which has moved away from the brand of conservatives that Bush represented. Greene added that had “‘Bush in heels’” been what they wanted then they would have also voted for Liz Cheney.
Haley had previously served under the Trump administration as the ambassador to the United Nations, however, with her presidential campaign she has been calling for a new generation of GOP leaders to take over. During her event on Wednesday, she said that it was time to move forward and that they were “more than ready” to have a “new generation” of leaders.
Following the announcement Trump also criticized Haley over her past support for cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
