(TargetLiberty.org) – A man in New York was sentenced to three months in jail after he left threatening voicemails to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
In February Joseph Morelli had pleaded guilty to leaving voicemail messages threatening to kill Greene at her Washington Office. In the messages he had left in early 2022, Morelli had claimed that Greene had caused “poison” and “hatred” for people and that was why he would need to physically harm her.
In a different voicemail, he continued by accusing Greene of having a “big f—ing mouth” and claiming that he was going to show her what violence was actually about. He then pushed her to keep spreading her hate and waiting to see what was going to happen to her as he was going to physically hurt her.
In the voicemails, Morelli had identified himself and spelled his name out. Federal prosecutors pointed out in court that Morelli had a history of sending threats and looking for confrontation with authority figures.
However, Morelli’s defense lawyer argued that the threatening calls were a result of the man’s mental health as he suffered from bipolar disorder.
Morelli had not taken any action to suggest that he was considering harming Greene, which he could have easily done if he wanted to buy a gun.
Greene has requested that the man pay her $66,000 in restitution as the threatening calls had led her to increase the security in her home in Georgia and install security cameras and a fence.
