(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and proceeded to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to become his party’s next nominee.
In a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Biden wrote that he had decided that he would not be accepting the Democratic nomination and would instead place all his focus on finishing his term in the White House. He noted that in 2020 when he first became the party’s nominee the first choice he had made was to select Kamala Harris as his running mate. He added that this was the “best decision” he had made.
He proceeded to state that he was now going to be endorsing Harris and providing his full support for her as the Democratic nominee for 2024. He stated that this was the time for the Democratic Party to unite and defeat former President Donald Trump in November.
Biden had not originally included his endorsement of the vice president in the letter he had posted to announce that he was withdrawing from the presidential race. His original letter resulted in a lot of speculations regarding what this would mean for the future of the Democratic Party. However, with his recent endorsement, Harris is going to be considered the clear leader to replace the former President in November.
There are many advantages that Harris has over other candidates, including her presence in the 2020 presidential ticket. She has also spent the last few months campaigning around the United States especially in swing states, while also having become the key face of the presidential campaign’s abortion access push. Most importantly, she would be the only other candidate who would receive access to the Biden-Harris campaign financial chest.
