(TargetLiberty.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been blasted for traveling across the country while his constituents in Fort Lauderdale are dealing with extreme flooding, which has led to a series of emergency rescues and school closures.
DeSantis has not yet announced his intentions for 2024, but it is widely speculated that this tour across different states is part of his anticipated announcement about 2024.
Following the criticisms that DeSantis was placing his attention on gaining national recognition, instead of the needs of the people in Florida, one of his spokespeople stated that it would be “wrong” for people to “rush to politicize every natural disaster.”
Still, supporters of former President Donald Trump have widely criticized DeSantis for choosing to travel out of state at a time of such severe weather conditions. DeSantis is set to make an appearance in Ohio on Thursday, while in Fort Lauderdale people are dealing with intense flooding. Trump’s supporters have pointed to the timing of this trip to claim that DeSantis was putting his constituents behind in an effort to try and increase the national attention he was receiving.
Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, took to Twitter to point out that the flooding has resulted in Floridians losing their cars and even having their homes destroyed. As she pointed out, instead of focusing on his job in Florida, DeSantis was instead focusing his attention on “flying to Ohio to campaign for President.”
Alex Bruesewitz, a Trump-aligned GOP consultant, also responded to a video of the floods in Florida by stating that DeSantis was putting his state “LAST.”
