(TargetLiberty.org) – The local chapter of a nonprofit parental rights group, which has been labeled as “extremist” by an anti-hate watchdog, has issued an apology for including a quote from Adolf Hitler on the front cover of its newsletter.
Moms for Liberty, the Hamilton County, Indiana chapter, placed a quote by Hitler on their newsletter cover, intending it as a warning about government overreach. The quote, believed to be from a 1935 speech by Hitler, states, “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.” This quote alludes to the Nazi Party’s practice of indoctrinating young people through schools and summer camps to promote Nazi ideology.
Chairwoman Paige Miller expressed regret in an updated version of the newsletter, admitting that the quote “should not have been included.” She clarified that they condemn Hitler’s actions and apologize for the inappropriate use of the quote.
Moms for Liberty, with over 250 chapters nationwide and more than 100,000 members, has gained prominence in recent years. The organization has been actively seeking book bans on a national scale, particularly targeting materials that mention race and gender in schools and public libraries. Although initially focused on opposing pandemic related lockdowns in schools, the group has shifted its attention to critical race theory, gender ideology, and other topics related to right-wing culture wars.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) designated Moms for Liberty as an extremist group last year, citing incidents of intimidation and harassment of teachers and school officials by its members. The organization has publicly clashed with teachers’ unions, referring to them as “cartels” and “terrorist organizations.”
The national leadership of Moms for Liberty has also disapproved of the Hitler quote. Co-founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice stated unequivocally that quoting Hitler was inappropriate, emphasizing that while parents are passionate about safeguarding future generations from tyranny, resorting to Hitler’s words was unnecessary.
Moms for Liberty has emerged as a significant force in Republican politics, actively engaging in school board elections and claiming to have influenced 17 board flips nationwide. As a testament to its growing influence, six presidential candidates—five Republicans and Democratic candidate Robert Kennedy, Jr.—are slated to attend the organization’s summit this month.
