(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) stated that former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was responsible for the chaos in the House of Representatives following his ousting from office. She specifically claimed that McCarthy’s mistake was elevating members of the party who were in support of overturning the 2020 presidential election and not holding those responsible for Jan. 6 accountable but rather “looking the other way.”

Regarding the House’s lack of a Speaker, Cheney stated that she wished this could be considered surprising. She added that what we are seeing right now is the result of McCarthy’s decision as the party’s leader dating back to the 2020 election and after the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack. She claimed this was the result of members of the party, including former President Donald Trump and his House allies turning away when the country’s democracy was assaulted.

Cheney further argued that McCarthy had elevated certain members of the party, some of whom she referred to as “antisemitic” and “white supremacists,” who had been the same people who had attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. As she said it was unsurprising when one could see those people be “in power.”

Cheney also noted that some Republicans have been threatened with violence as a result of the chaos in the House and that it was inappropriate for them to accept such violence in politics. Last week several Republicans had reportedly faced death threats over their votes on the Speaker.
