( – On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) pushed for the Biden administration to push forward a new policy that would resemble the pandemic-era Title 42, which enabled border patrol agents to expel migrants at the border without having to hear their asylum claims as a result of the public health emergency.

In an interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” Graham argued that the key was to have the administration use a Title-42 type of policy in order to turn people away by stating that the country was “full.” He proceeded to point out that currently, it took four years for any of the asylum claims to be heard, and that they had 1.7 million people who were “ready to be deported” but that the administration would not proceed with the deportation. However, as he pointed out it was necessary for people to be expelled from the United States in order for the inflow to be stopped.

Graham argued that Title 42-type authority would give the administration the ability to stop incoming migrants and turn them away.

These latest statements come as the discussions regarding immigration have been stalled. The negotiations were part of an aid package that would deal with the situation at the U.S. border while also providing aid to Israel and Ukraine.
On Sunday the Republican Senator argued that “expedited removal is on the table” and that he found parole to be a point of contention for him as the Biden administration had been using “humanitarian parole” to handle the influx of people.
