(TargetLiberty.org) – Following the CNN-hosted town hall featuring former President Donald Trump, many liberals have criticized the network for going through with the event.
Trump is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary, and during the town hall, he had several heated exchanges with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who served as the moderator. The topics covered during the town hall included Trump’s accusations of a rigged election, the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, and the defamation and battery civil case that ended with a jury finding him liable.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was quick to blast CNN on Twitter for allowing this event to go on, arguing that the network should be “ashamed.” She further pointed out that the outlet did not have any control over the town hall which ended up providing Trump with a platform for perpetuating his false allegations about stolen elections, downplaying the severity of Jan. 6, and publicly attacking a victim of sexual abuse. She added that this entire situation was on CNN and that everyone else could see how this town hall would play out.
MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan also tweeted out his criticisms about Trump being allowed to mock E. Jean Carroll and calling the incident “hanky panky” after being found days earlier by a court to be liable. He further pointed out that the audience was laughing while Trump was mocking Carroll.
Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali wrote in an opinion piece that with this town hall, “CNN failed journalism, the American public, and its own employees.”
