(TargetLiberty.org) – Recently, Former President Donald Trump argued during a short press conference in Florida that he had confidence in Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) following the tough week that the House GOP has had including the several failed votes they had.

In the past few days, Johnson has had to deal with a number of tough situations in his conference, including a failed impeachment attempt against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and another vote that would provide additional aid to Israel.

Johnson spoke with some Republicans about his plans to endorse Rep. Matt Rosendale’s (R-Mont.) Senate bid, however, he later reversed his stance on that. If Rosendale announced a Senate bill he would be going against fellow GOP member Tim Sheehy, who has the support of several Republicans on Capitol Hill.

In October, Johnson was elected as the Speaker following a motion to vacate against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). After the seat was left vacant Trump had initially endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) for Speaker for the position, but supported the eventual selection of Johnson, calling him “MAGA Mike” in a post on social media.

Johnson has also been a big supporter of the former President in recent years and has been aligned with the policy stance followed by Trump on several important issues. Johnson had also blasted the bipartisan Senate border security deal arguing earlier this week after its release that it would be “dead on arrival.” Similarly, Trump pushes Republicans to not back and argues that it would be a political mistake.
