Leftist Politicians' Abortion Policies Not Popular With Democrat Voters, Says New Poll

Poll: Majority Of Democrat Voters OPPOSE This Radical Leftist Policy

(TargetLiberty.org) – The Democratic Party doesn’t believe there should be any restrictions on abortion at all. At least, that’s what the politicians within the party would have you think. Recently, they tried to pass a radical abortion law to codify Roe v. Wade. One of the Democratic senators defected and voted with Republicans during the vote.

While Democratic lawmakers try to expand abortion rights, a new poll reveals their voters don’t seem to have the same opinion about the procedure.

What Voters Really Think

In a poll conducted by Convention of States Action (COSA) and the Trafalgar Group from May 6-8, Democratic voters largely rejected the notion there shouldn’t be restrictions in place to prevent abortions up to the point of birth. Only 18.8% of Liberal voters believed those abortions should be legal. The poll also found that 45.3% of Democrats think the procedure should only be legal in the first and second trimesters.

Shockingly, a combined 17.5% of Democratic voters think the procedure should only be legal if the mother’s life is in danger or in the case of rape or incest. Another 18.2% of voters believe the procedure should only occur up until the point a heartbeat is detected. That means more than 35% of Democratic voters support some of the most restrictive abortion measures.

What Democratic Lawmakers Are Getting Wrong

While Democratic lawmakers don’t explicitly state abortions should be legal up until that point, the party does support late-term abortions. These are abortions that take place from 21 to 24 weeks, the point at which the medical community widely agrees a baby is viable. The Supreme Court’s 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey ruling protects abortions until that point — for now.

In early May, Democrats forced a vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022 but failed to pass it when 11 Republicans and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted against it. The bill sought to make abortions legal for all women without any restrictions, something voters clearly do not want.

Pro-Life Movement

The Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey any day now. If it happens, the pro-life movement finally has an opportunity to push for laws voters want to see in place to protect babies. For nearly five decades, conservatives have been trying to right the wrong they believe was committed when the SCOTUS ruled in favor of the pro-choice movement. Now is the time to make it happen.
