Defeated Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has called for the Maricopa County election officials to be “locked up” as she is heading to courts this week to contest the certification of the election. While talking at Turning Point USA’s America Fest, Lake alleged once again that both the presidential election in 2020 and the election to Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs (D) had been stolen.
Regarding Maricopa’s County election officials, Lake had said that the “people are crooks, they need to be locked up.” She then listed off a number of allegations about election fraud.
Maricopa County, Arizona’s most populous jurisdiction which also includes Phoenix, has become the center of the allegations regarding election fraud after a few printers malfunctioned in the county.
Election officials acknowledged that there was an issue with the printers but they have argued that there were a bunch of other ways that people could vote. However, Lake and other GOP members have maintained that there were voters who were affected by the election day problem.
Maricopa County and Hobbs, in both her capacities as secretary of state and as a gubernatorial candidate, have asked the judges to dismiss Lake’s election challenge. The oral arguments are set on Monday and there is a two-day trial that was scheduled for later this week in case the case proceeds. scheduled for later this week if the case moves forward.
