(TargetLiberty.org) – The Iranian regime launched another display of military theater on Monday, with state TV showing dramatic footage of a so-called “missile city” on the coast of the Persian Gulf. It’s probably the latest move in Tehran’s campaign to intimidate President Biden into abandoning sanctions on Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
On March 15, Iranian state TV showed footage of a Revolutionary Guard’s base on the Gulf Coast which, according to a Guard naval commander, has the equipment to “detect enemy signals.” They also showed a large stock of missiles and boasted that the “city” will be a base for both ballistic and cruise missiles.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps revealed what it said was a new underground missile base capable of conducting electronic warfare in support of the country’s navy https://t.co/376d1mVI4m

Basing cruise and ballistic missiles together makes no military sense. Equipment to detect enemy signals isn’t exactly a huge leap forward in military technology either – it’s been standard since the early 1940s. However, this likely isn’t about military power; it’s about bullying the Biden administration into going easy on Iran. And, so far, if the recent unfreezing of billions of dollars in Iranian assets previously sanctioned by the US is any indication, these types of tactics look like they might be working.
