(TargetLiberty.org) – House Republicans are being pushed to choose either former President Trump’s or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s side, as Trump is potentially going to be indicted in New York.
Republicans, including DeSantis, have widely accused Manhattan District Attorney of having weaponized his prosecutorial power by choosing to focus on Trump in the alleged hush money payment made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels, lawmakers during the House GOP’s retreat in Florida have been in the middle of the Trump vs. DeSantis tension.
Trump allies have particularly been pushing for more support for Trump during the retreat which was initially meant to focus on bringing unity in the House GOP and creating a path for them to move forward following their first few months in office.
So far, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (N.Y.) is the only member of leadership to endorse Trump officially. She also blasted DeSantis for his comments on Monday regarding the New York case, where he made a comment directed at Trump for his association with an adult film star. Specifically following his comment that he would not know about paying hush money to an adult film star for an alleged affair, Stefanik said that he would most likely see a decline in support because of this comment. She added that DeSantis’ numbers were slipping these past few weeks. She added that she believed Trump’s position was going to be further strengthened in the GOP primary race.
