(TargetLiberty.org) – On Monday, House Homeland Security Committee Republicans unveiled new border legislation which would require the completion of the border wall as originally designed by former President Donald Trump. It would also halt the Biden administration’s attempts to provide a legal pathway for immigrants to enter the United States.

The Border Reinforcement Act is one of the first major legislations to be introduced by the panel. It was rolled out only days after the Republicans announced their effort to limit asylum. The bill would require the completion of the border wall which would extend at least 900 miles. This was a Trump-era goal that the Biden administration cut the funding.

The legislation is also trying to put a stop to the Biden administration’s new program which enables those from Venezuela, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Cuba to apply to come to the U.S. if they are able to secure a U.S.-based sponsor. The application can be easily done through an app. According to the most recent data, most of the migrants who entered the U.S. through the Southern border originated from one of these four countries. This plan aims to reduce the number of people who are at the border by providing an alternative method for these people to seek asylum and enter the U.S. legally.

This program has been greatly criticized because it blocks nationals from those four countries from using any other method to seek asylum. However, the GOP bill could entirely block the CBP One App, being used for this process.
