Nation’s Capitol Hits Disturbing New Record That Showcases America’s Downfall
(TargetLiberty.org) – Last weekend, Washington, DC’s homicide tally hit 100 — a milestone it doesn’t usually reach until October. So far, this year is the worst in nearly 20 years. Of course, considering the mess the city’s police force is in, spiraling crime rates probably shouldn’t be a surprise.
With D.C. homicide and violent crime rates spiraling, Mayor Muriel Bowser finds herself in a reelection fight, fending off two challengers who accuse her of mishandling public safety issues and criticize her push to hire more police officers. https://t.co/iXTVMaEe5E

Four people were killed in Washington, DC over the weekend, pushing the year’s homicide total past 100. Over the last four years, the 100th homicide usually hasn’t occurred until around October 25; in fact, it hasn’t been this early since 2003. Last year, the city had a record total of 226 homicides. So far, in 2022 the rate is running at 16% higher. Unsurprisingly, DC residents aren’t happy at the city’s murder epidemic and they want action.
It’s not hard to understand why crime in DC is out of control. In 2020, the city council voted to slash the police budget, in a knee-jerk reaction to that year’s BLM riots. Since then, the DC Metropolitan Police Department has shrunk by over 500 officers and morale in the department is low. Police Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton recently blamed this year’s shocking murder statistics on “misguided ‘police reform’ legislation.”
Last week, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced a new $20,000 signing bonus in an attempt to boost police recruiting — but for at least 104 DC residents it’s already too late.
