(TargetLiberty.org) – On Saturday, Jon Favreau, who used to work as a speechwriter during the Obama administration, argued that the Democrats will never know whether or not it was the right choice to have President Joe Biden as the top of the ticket in the next election. However, he did warn that if Biden decided to step down it could be a big “risk” for democracy.

Favreau took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to respond to a piece by podcaster and New York Times columnist Ezra Klein in which he claimed that the Democrats needed to convince the President to step aside and instead select a new candidate in the 2024 presidential election during the party’s convention in August. Klein pointed out that this is a practice that tended to be a lot more common in presidential elections in the past.

Klein in his piece noted that there are various alternatives for the party and that they could choose from Govs. Gretchen Whitmer, Jared Polis, Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, Andy Beshear or J.B. Pritzker. He also pointed out that Reps. Ro Khanna, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as well as Sens. Cory Booker, Raphael Warnock, and Chris Murphy were all possible options. He added that the list “goes on.”

Favreau pushed for the Democrats to also read the piece; however, he argued that he was skeptical about the main proposed argument. He added that they would never actually know whether or not having Biden as the nominee is riskier than allowing Democratic activists to select a lesser-known candidate that could end up being weaker.
