Governors Use COVID as an Excuse for Overreach

( – The Wuhan virus pandemic is a serious threat; it’s already killed over 160,000 Americans and devastated our economy. However, the way politicians are responding to it could end up being an even bigger danger. Lawmakers at every level are using the virus to justify unprecedented crackdowns on our liberties – and they’re getting away with it.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) warned on Wednesday private homes that host parties risk having their utilities cut off. Garcetti says this is for safety reasons, but it looks a lot like a punishment.

On the bright side, Angelenos won’t get fined for going out without a mask – but elsewhere you can get a bill for up to $400 for a first offense. Glendale, CA, has the highest fines in the nation, so far.

Wearing a mask might not be enough, though. If you drive into Chicago you’ll see highway signs warning you to self-isolate for 14 days if you’ve been to a COVID hot spot recently. The city’s list of “hot spots” already covers 22 states plus Puerto Rico – and mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) isn’t shy about adding more. If you ignore the quarantine order you could be fined up to $500 a day.

Democrat mayors and governors are using the pandemic as a smokescreen to control our lives to an extent the rulers of the USSR could only dream about. Are they going to let go of their new powers when the health crisis passes? Not unless we make them.
