(TargetLiberty.org) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) is a firm believer in personal choice. As a conservative, he objects to a governor inserting themself into personal health decisions. That’s why he took action to put an end to coronavirus mandates in his state.
On July 29, Abbott issued an executive order banning mask and vaccine mandates in Texas. The governor’s order covers schools and other government entities. If someone violates the order, they will face fines up to $1,000.
The governor’s order states people who want to wear a face mask may continue to do so without interference. In a statement, Abbott explained the order allows him to ensure all of Texas’ rules are uniform. He almost explained that a year and a half into the pandemic, Americans know what they need to do to keep themselves and their families safe. How they go about doing that is nobody’s business but their own.
I issued an executive order providing uniformity in Texas' COVID response—we must rely on personal responsibility, not gov't mandates.
Texans will decide for themselves whether they'll wear masks & open businesses.

Abbott’s decision came as the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread across the US. President Joe Biden recently issued an order mandating all federal employees and contractors to get the vaccine or follow a strict testing protocol. While the governor’s order doesn’t change that, it does prevent localities in Texas from copying the president.
