( – GOP Senators are preparing to pause all of the Senate’s legislative business unless a full trial into the impeachment articles of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas takes place.

Fox News Digital reported that according to six different sources around a dozen Republican Senators were intending to cause more than a week of obstruction to legislative proceedings if there is no agreement on the points of order in Mayorkas’ impeachment trial after the House impeachment managers deliver the articles.

One Senate GOP aide who is close to the matter argued that the Senate needs unanimous consent, which means that a single senator could cause a pause. They further revealed that these discussions have been going on over the last week.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) noted during a press conference that they would need to agree to points of order after the impeachment articles are delivered to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. He pointed out that this would include negotiating the procedural bounds for the impeachment proceedings.

Sen. John Kennedy(R-La.) also pointed out during the press conference that the proceedings would be presided over by Senate president pro tempore Patty Murray (D-Wash.). He added that it was possible that Schumer would instruct her to only recognize him and as such they would not even get a chance to make a point of order as they wouldn’t be recognized.

This was also confirmed by a second Senate GOP aide who noted that there are discussions with several senators stating that they would support pausing business in the Senate in the case that the impeachment ends up being tabled.
