(TargetLiberty.org) – Senator Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican, has detailed why he believes that former President Donald Trump is not going to be able to win in the 2024 presidential race.
Trump, who served as the U.S. president from 2017 to 2021 is running in the Republican presidential primary again. Currently, as he is leading the polls many believe that 2024 might end up turning into a rematch between President Biden and Trump. Biden managed to narrowly defeat Trump in 202, but unlike in 2020 currently, there are many other Republicans who have also joined the general election.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to join the presidential race in the next few weeks, is considered to be the biggest opposition that Trump is going to face in the race. According to a recent report by The New York Times, DeSantis even alleged that there was only one Republican who could beat Biden.
Cassidy in response to DeSantis’s comments talked about Trump not being able to get elected again during an appearance on CNN. Cassidy pointed out that while DeSantis’s statement was trying to “diss others” in the GOP primary race, he is right that Trump would not be able to win in the general election against Biden.
He proceeded to state that the 2022 midterm elections, where the Republicans underperformed is further evidence as to why Trump would not be able to win in 2024. As he pointed out, despite Biden’s unpopularity which could help push for a “red wave” the Republicans did not manage to win the Senate and only narrowly won the House because of the extremist Trump-endorsed candidates in swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, which are states he is likely to lose again in 2024.
