GOP Senator Fires Back at Biden's Minimum Wage Increase

( – A GOP senator has slammed President Biden’s proposed $15-per-hour minimum wage, branding it a recipe for destroying jobs. That leaves Biden in an awkward spot between his party’s far left, who’s demanding the move, and those who feel it will be disastrous for the economy.

Talking to Fox News on February 17, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) warned Biden that “in the middle of this pandemic, killing another two to four million jobs… is not common sense.” He suggested that a huge number of jobs will be at risk if Biden goes ahead with the increase to $15 an hour – jobs that won’t be economically viable at the higher wage. The new minimum wage proposal is backed by major Democratic leaders like Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

In the same interview, Scott praised a new initiative by Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Tom Cotton (R-AR), which would increase the minimum wage gradually while also eliminating illegal immigrants from the labor market and protecting American workers.
