After Republicans secured the House majority, the GOP has revealed they will be initiating investigations into President Joe Biden’s brother James Biden and son Hunter Biden for international business dealings.
The purpose of these investigations is to ascertain whether the President has been “compromised” by foreign governments, according to ranking member of the House Oversight Committee Rep. James Comer (R-KY.).
The announcement made by Comer and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH.), a ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, at a press conference on Wednesday (November 16) morning signals the shift of focus from the disappointing midterm results to oversight.
Comer indicated the investigations will “evaluate” the relationship Biden has with his family’s “foreign partners” and whether he was being swayed by foreign money and “influence.”
Comer also clarified that President Biden was the one being investigated by the probe, saying the Committee will focus on that when the new Congress commences in January.
Jordan explained his panel would be assisting the Oversight Committee in the investigation of Biden and his family’s business dealings, with the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into the alleged politicization of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI.
On Thursday (November 17), Republicans in the House Judiciary Committee released a 32-page interim report on the Biden family investigation.
In the last pages, the report details that the investigation into the foreign dealings of Biden’s family will be conducted to inform legislation regarding “government employees’ family members’ ability” to lobby government officials.
The probe would also address the need for government officials to disclose “financial interests held in trust” by their family members and associates.
