(TargetLiberty.org) – Democrats are attacking a Supreme Court justice over his wife’s political beliefs and trying to force him to step back from cases related to the 2020 election. Coincidentally, he just happens to be one of the more conservative justices. Now, Republican lawmakers have rallied around the besieged judge.

On March 24, the mainstream media revealed that Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of long-serving Justice Clarence Thomas, had sent several emails to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in the days after the 2020 presidential election. Mrs. Thomas, a conservative activist, was urging Meadows – and President Trump – to keep challenging the disputed election result.
None of Thomas’s emails mentioned her husband or his role on the Supreme Court, and there’s no evidence he knew anything about them. However, that hasn’t stopped some Democrats demanding he recuse himself from election-related cases. Now GOP legislators are pushing back. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) criticized the media for targeting the family of a public official, while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called Thomas “a great American and an outstanding justice” and said he has “total confidence” in him. Do we really want to live in the sort of country where people can be punished for what their spouses did or said?
