The British socialite helped convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein procure, traffick, and sexually abuse multiple children as young as 14 from about 1994 to 2004. Once she recruited the minors, she took them across state lines to deliver them to the pedophile, where they were abused by them both. Maxwell specifically targeted the most vulnerable in the population, which were usually minors from broken homes with little financial means.
In December 2021, after a one-month trial closely followed by many, a jury found her guilty of multiple sex crimes. Once she serves her 20 years, the defendant will have a supervised release lasting 5 years and must pay a fine of $750,000. US Attorney Damian Williams said the sentencing sends a message to the public that no one is above the law and justice will prevail, no matter how much time has passed.
