(TargetLiberty.org) – A petition to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has hit the deadline for new signatures — and organizers say they’re well past the threshold to force an election. If they can swing the vote, California could be free of Newsom’s bungling at last.
Gavin Newsom is lashing out at the "partisan Republican Recall" as a new poll shows 58.3 percent of Californians oppose his reelection.

Last January, a deputy sheriff in Yolo County, CA launched a petition under California election law. The deadline for the organizers to collect the 1,495,709 signatures it needed to force a ballot was March 17 — but the ‘RecallGavin campaign’ announced they had reached that total on February 12. Now, they say, the signature count is around 2,060,000 — and over 300,000 of them are from registered Democrats.
Newsom admitted on Tuesday that the recall will go to a vote, but he’s still claiming it’s being signed by extremists. However, about 35% of signatories don’t even identify as Republicans, according to a tweet from political consultant Dave Gilliard. This suggests Newsom — whose anti-COVID policies have sparked widespread public anger across the state — is facing a growing bipartisan push for his removal. Now the signatures will be verified by county election officials, and a vote should be held around October or November. With recent a recent poll from Emerson College For Nexstar Media suggesting nearly 60% of Californians want him gone, it appears Newsom is in serious trouble.
