(TargetLiberty.org) – A Fox News anchor mistakenly claimed that an assistant of former President Donald Trump waiting outside his arraignment was former First Lady Melania Trump.
On Tuesday during a report anchor John Roberts had to clarify that in fact the woman he had previously assumed was Melania Trump was in fact Margo Martin, a former White House aide who had continued to work for Trump after he left the White House in 2021. Martin is currently a member of Trump’s 2024 campaign.
In his clarification, Roberts explained that on “a day like today” it is very easy to confuse two people when looking at them from a distance. Earlier that day while reporting on Trump’s arraignment in a Miami court, Roberts had stated that Melania Trump, and not Martin, was the person seen from a close-up angle. It has not yet been revealed whether or not Melania Trump actually attended the arraignment with her husband at the federal courthouse in Miami.
Roberts is not the only one to refer to the resemblance between Martin and Melania. In a tweet attorney Ron Filipkowski pointed out to Fox that the woman in the shot was Margo Martin, who he stated was sometimes referred to as “fake Melania.”
The “fake Melania” conspiracy theory is a reference to the theory that a body double for Melania is used during events as she refuses to join Donald Trump events. This theory was first proposed when a woman who looked like Melania joined Trump on a visit to the Secret Service training center in Maryland in October 2017.
