(TargetLiberty.org) – On Wednesday, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) endorsed former President Trump’s presidential bid for 2024 following a meeting with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) with House Republicans in Washington a day earlier.

Buchanan in his statement claimed that Trump was the best person to help get the economy “back on track.” He added that Trump is “just the guy to get it done.” He continued to state that Trump would pursue lower taxation, as well as push for America-first trade deals, to help get the country back on track. As he noted this is something that Trump has done before and it is something that he is able to do again.

A source close to Buchanan revealed that Trump had personally called him to discuss the endorsement and invite him to dinner at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday night. Buchanan is the chair of the Florida delegation, and is the latest of Florida’s Republicans to back the former President in the 2024 presidential race, despite the fact that their home-state governor is also expected to join the presidential race.

Currently, Trump has been endorsed by seven of the 20-member Florida Republican delegation with Buchanan and Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Cory Mills, Anna Paulina Luna, John Rutherford, and Greg Steube, all having endorsed him.

On Tuesday, one member of the delegation Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.) announced that she would be backing DeSantis. She was the third member of Congress to endorse the Florida governor, who has not yet announced his plans for 2024 and whether he will run in the presidential election.
