(TargetLiberty.org) – In a new op-ed, there was a warning for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ahead of his possible nomination in the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis is currently clashing with suspended state attorney Monique Worrell. The progressive Democrat from the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida State Attorney office was suspended over what was described as “neglect of duty and incompetence.”
Following her suspension Worrell filed a lawsuit against DeSantis and then called for the state’s Supreme Court to reinstate her. On Wednesday during an oral argument attorney for the governor had argued that the court did not have the necessary authority to consider the brief brought forward by Worrell.
On Sunday, the Orlando Sentinel published an op-ed calling for Worrell to be reinstated, arguing that it was necessary because justice was important. It further cited that some of the findings of the investigation were “dubious” and even accused DeSantis of having used his position to suspend Worrell for his own political gain. As they argued this would allow him to use the suspension to gain more support during his 2024 presidential campaign.
They proceed to argue that there is a lot of evidence provided to the high court that exhibits this attempt by DeSantis to use every available opportunity to “further his own ambitions.” The editorial board added that DeSantis has used every possible chance to gain the approval of primary voters who view him as a possible alternative to former President Donald Trump that would be “less scandalous.”
