(TargetLiberty.org) – Senator John Fetterman (D-PA.) has been accused by social media users of having thrown his wife under the bus with his most recent remarks regarding the influx of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Fetterman, who joined the Senate after the 2022 midterm elections, had previously received praise from progressive independent Senator Bernie Sanders during his Senate campaign that he would be a “fighter” for the American working class. The remarks had been made during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press.

However, there are important issues where Fetterman has not been keeping with the progressive line of thought, including immigration and the Israel-Hamas war.

On Friday NBC News published an article with remarks from Fetterman who had claimed that he was not a “progressive.” He had added that he was simply a Democrat who was committed to a number of things, including choice. However, as he argued with Israel he wanted to be “on the right side.” He added that immigration was another important issue to him, which is why he believed that it was important for them to do whatever possible to address it.

This interview came as Congress Republicans pushed to have the U.S.-Mexico border secured as illegal border crossings have for the second year in a row surpassed 2 million. In September there were 269,735 apprehensions that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded.

Fetterman pointed out that based on the current statistics this was a reasonable conversation for them to have until someone could come up with a viable solution on what they can do to address the 270,00 people being encountered on the U.S. border, not including those that pass without being caught.
