(TargetLiberty.org) – Chris Christie, who dropped out of the 2024 presidential race less than two weeks ago, has stated that he would not be endorsing former President Donald Trump in the race, even if Trump became the party’s nominee.

Following his announcement about his campaign being suspended, Christie told his supporters that there was no one who would “tell the truth about Donald Trump” and the divisiveness that he brought.

Christie, who had endorsed Trump in 2016 swiftly after dropping out of the presidential race, is one of two Republican presidential candidates for 2024 who had not raised their hand when asked whether or not they would be supporting the former President if he became the party’s nominee and was convicted one of the trials he is currently facing.

Since then, Christie has repeatedly found ways to signal that he would not be giving his support to Trump in his presidential campaign under any circumstance. However, he was also famously caught on a “hot mic” stating that Trump’s remaining presidential opponent Nikki Haley was going to “get smoked.”

Many GOP leaders are not happy with the position taken by Christie, especially as Trump is likely going to be the 2024 Republican nominee.

Former Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R.-Mich., stated specifically that Christie needed to endorse whoever was selected as the GOP nominee and that any other move was going to be “disappointing and unacceptable.”

Annual Pennsylvania Leadership Conference chief organizer Lowman Henry similarly argued that prior to the primary Christie had signed a pledge that he would support whoever ended up being the GOP nominee and that this was a pledge he needed to honor.
